He upon whose heart the dust of Mexico has lain will find no peace in any other land.
—Malcolm Lowry in Under the Volcano
A year ago I started this blog (time flies!), and since then I've been trying to write a post about my country, the thing is, nothing feels satisfying when I'm trying to describe it. I left Mexico almost 12 years ago and although I've kept visiting at least once every two years it has changed so much that I'm begining to wonder if I've lost the words in the change. I was very happy growing up in Mexico City, but when I discovered Italy and fell in love with it I moved here without even really thinking about it. But everytime I go back I enjoy it, the food, the people, the weather, the culture and of course the family and friends, everything keeps welcoming me in the warmest of ways.
Now that I come to think of it, I don't have any pictures of Mexico City but here are some of one of the most beautiful places on earth: the Mayan Riviera.

We've been there many times but (shame on us!) we have never visited the archeological sites. See, we love culture and history but when you see this beautiful sea, feel the soft sand and start enjoying the delicious food you won't want to move for the rest of your holiday.
I like both Cancun and Playa del Carmen, both great destinations depending on what you want to do. If you want to party go to Cancun, the best clubs are there (CocoBongo!), if you want a family environment, Playa is the place; for peace and relax try to go south of Playa, near Tulum.
We've stayed in many hotels and resorts but the two best are the Dreams Cancun and the Occidental Grand Xcaret, here are some pics:
Dreams Cancun has a good beach, it is located in the northern tip of the hotel strip of Cancun. Oceanfront rooms are great and they have the dolphins' pool which is good if you're traveling with kids (but it can be pricey to swim with them).

Occidental Xcaret was nice because the service was excellent, the food delicious, it is next to Xcaret, the natural park and it has complimentary entrance to it, if you go try to catch the evening show, it is great. The only con is the beach, it is artificial and when you are in this beautiful part of the Caribbean you want the best beach.

The worst we have stayed at was the Puerto Real in Playa del Carmen, horrible beach, horrible service (the food was good though).
Can't wait to go back this summer! We'll be visiting a different area in the Pacific and I promise to take lots of pics!
